Being a university student in the UK comes with an amazing perk: proximity to Europe ! Offering everything, from beaches to historical buildings, we students plan trips whenever possible. Even if it is just for two days ! After exploring multiple European countries over my two academic years, here are some tips I’ve learned to travel smart and on a budget:
Fly with Budget Airlines
RyanAir and easyJet often have affordable deals for students. Sometimes flights can even be as cheap as £10 - £20 if you book early. Keep an eye on discounts and flexible dates to get the best prices.Airbnbs over Hotels
Airbnbs are usually cheaper, especially if you’re traveling with friends. They also give you a more “local” experience, and cooking some of your meals can save you a lot compared to eating out.Use Public Transport Smartly
Get day passes or multi-day transport cards. European cities are well-connected, and using buses, trams, and metros efficiently can save both time and money.Plan Your Route with Google Maps
Add all the places you want to visit in advance on a Google Map. You can colour code them to represent tourist attractions, restaurants, etc. This helps you organise your day efficiently, avoid backtracking, and make the most of your time.Prebook Tickets for Popular Attractions
For museums, galleries, or landmarks, booking online ahead of time often gives you discounts and saves you from long queues. Some places even have student rates, so always check!
